EMA affirms commitment to clinical trial transparency, hedges on timeline

EMA logoIn its 2013 work programme, published today, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) reaffirms its commitment to clinical trial transparency. As part of Specific Objective 3.3.5 (“Communicating with the public and the scientific community”), the agency plans to publish an agreed policy on the proactive publication of clinical trials by Q4 of 2013.

The EMA also plans to publish a “roadmap outlining the timeline and deliverables for proactive publication of data on clinical trials” by the same time. This hedges slightly compared with the timelines discussed by Hans-Georg Eichler at a public meeting on the topic in November 2012, when he suggested that the system could be agreed and implemented early in 2014 (although this was considered rather optimistic by many).
